Like the proletariat, my books need organising.
Here's an article in the Guardian all about book organisation.
Here's a brilliant stop-motion film re-organising a bookcase:

Wonderful!
I once organised my books by colour, and stuck to it for a year or so. It worked well, as often I could remember the look of a book better than the author's name, plus it made for thematic clusters (Marxist books are often red, modern fiction used to often be black on white, Penguins are orange, etc) and it looked good too.
Mine are vaguely alphabetic within a thematic ordering. Marxism, politics, European history, Imperialism and so on.
You can't do that with a kindle.
The National Library of Scotland, secure in the knowledge that every book will be being retrieved via a catalogue request and that shelf browsing is thus non-existent, organise their bookshelves by size (thus optimising the use of space).
